How do we make Boston metal again?[views:38352][posts:142]____________________________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 7:20pm - THE UNITY RAINBOW WARRIOR ""] I think the EASTCIDE re-union show will be the kizzzick in the pizzantz the scene needs.Word is bond son. |

______________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 7:23pm - swamplorddvm ""] Shows afew times a week is cool. But it's certain kinds of metal that is lacking in boston. I don't mean to sound like tool. But that's the way I feel. |
___________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 7:28pm - dreadkill ""] yeah, there are way too many death metal, metalcore, and deathcore bands around, but there's plenty of variety around here. |
____________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 7:30pm - RichHorror ""] That's called 'the shit I like isn't around here'. The sort of stuff that is on the top of my list isn't around here either. Or in this part of the country. You move to Europe, I'll move to the west coast. |

____________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 7:34pm - RichHorror ""] This thread would be more accurate if it was titled 'There are too many queer bands that I don't like in Boston'. |
____________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 7:36pm - RichHorror ""] Around here, the only metal bands I like play thrash, for the most part. And a lot of the thrash bands I think are shitty and gay because they play more of the european-melodic style. Teratism is gone, so BOE is the only death metal band I really like. Anything else I like that's local isn't really 'metal'. Or isn't from Massachusetts. |

There's a shitload of metal around now, especially compared to a couple of years ago. Stop complaining and enjoy it while it lasts. |

____________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 8:12pm - RichHorror ""] Yeah, it is. It's just some bands that are around now weren't back then or didn't play as many shows with the mainstay bands. To me, a lot of bands broke up and no new bands stepped up to more or less take their place as 'mainstay' type bands. Maybe that's just me, though. |
__________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 8:16pm - sinistas ""] Maybe it's that more of the gay music I'm into is around now. *shrug* There seems to be a lot more shows, though. |
____________________________________ [Jan 18,2007 8:19pm - RichHorror ""] I don't see it. O'Briens and The Choppin' Block were both places that regularly had solid shows. Even when O'Briens is back, that is it. Hopefully The Skybar becomes such a place, but it still remains to be seen. |

________________________________ [Jan 19,2007 12:18am - Troll ""] Boston was never overtly Metal anyways. Always dominated by hardcore and punk. Metal is alive and well in the rural New England. Always was always will be. Where do you think most of these nameless metallers that are packing venues like the Palladium and Middle East are driving from? |

________________________________ [Jan 19,2007 12:37am - Troll ""] Metal people should be more assertive in their local area and take more of a D.I.Y. stance. It takes some work but you can build a scene in your hometown from the bottom up. Berlin NH is a good example. You don't need to drive 200 miles out of town to see a good show but people were willing to drive 200 miles (or more in some cases) to our area at one point. It's kinda slowed down a bit lately but the repercussions of our activities have already influenced another generation of kids that look like they will one day carry the torch and Keep The Fucking Metal Flame Alive!))))))))))) < btw, thats an echo |

__________________________________ [Jan 19,2007 11:05am - Anthony ""] It's been said already but the answer is painfully fucking simple... GO TO SHOWS.. there, now we have an awesome, crazy, fun metal scene. It's that.fucking.simple. Also when bands desperate to put 'we played with so-and-so' on their presskit are willing to whore themselves out to paytoplay venues like Mark's, you are enabling those scumbags. If no bands would work with them, they wouldnt be able to pay the tour guarantees without doing any work, and they wouldnt be doing metal shows because then the lazy shits would actually have to promote to make back their money. There'll always be bands willing to buy into that pay-to-play shit though, so Mark's and it's ilk will continue to thrive and more and more great tours will be coming to Bedford, NH as their only Northeast date instead of Boston or Worcester. There are alot of bands that I respect and am cool with that have done the Mark's pay to play bullshit, so no offense to them, but I would never do it. And imo, nobody should be doing it. |

It feels to me though like once OB's shut down, the bottom fell out of the local scene. Sure, the occasional show at Skybar or in Quincy, but no more local hang-out type place. Oh, and I sure as hell didn't plan on starting a flame war. Sorry. Maybe there's a way people can help promote the bands? Dedicated fans handing out flyers/stickers/etc. |
