Oh come on. The US in 1950 could easily whoop inferior Chinese units. But a US Marine unit today could PROBABLY not whip five other US Marine units, which would be a more apt comparison in our hypothetical campaign.
Of course, your example conveniently neglects the fact that nearly every conflict in the 55+ years since this event and for thousands of years beforehand was dominated by the force with superior firepower/technology/and/or numbers. Maine does not have any of those things over Mass.
