-Frodo scene was unecessary.
-Warg/rabbit scene was putrid
-mountain trolls sitting around fire scene was executed awfully
-every time the camera showed Thorin, it was slowed down and, as xmikex said, Dwarfy McDreamy
-goblins looked like shit as CGI
-voice acting was awful
-"That'll do it." Is one of the worst one liners in the history of film making
-I'm convinced that the world already ended on December 14th, at midnight, when this movie premiered.

Mike, care to elaborate on what you didn't like? I respect your Tolkien knowledge.

The one improvement that this film had over LOTR... For every single LOTR film there was at least 1 confused black couple in the theater mumbling through the whole movie and then leaving pissed off at the end trying to figure out what the hell they just watched. This time the only 2 black people in the theater got up and (loudly) left during the opening exposition.

Gollum was great, though.

i can't believe you fools who had high expectations. this was exactly what i knew it was going to be. what about the book, or the last 3 movies made you think it was going to be any different than it was? it's a kids book, that was a kid-oriented movie. You can tell Peter Jackson didn't give a shit what any purist blowhard was going to say, and i commend him for that. i wonder why some of you even went, you knew what it was going to be like, and you went in prepared to hate it.

Don't elves and dwarves have a common ancestor? do any of you know what dwarves look like as youths? it seems the makeup artists used the idea that they become more stumped and dwarvish as they get older.

all in all, i'm just happy it was made. to hope for purity is foolish, that's not how it works anymore. i can remember the same bullshit being spewed about the first LOTR movies, and now people love them.

It had potential to be great, but Jackson half-assed it. I don't think the film-making aspect of it was all that good. I understood the tone going in, but it was definitely half-heartedly strewn together for money. I don't think he put his heart and soul into this movie, I'M SORRY FOR BEING A PURIST.

If I can make a couple of generalized inferences here.... The LOTR trilogy was very well executed IMO even considering the omission of Tom Bombadil, Scouring of the Shire, some events being sequenced differently, and so on. The quality of what was done was still recognizably high.

With The Hobbit, there is a general sense of hackery and a step backward in overall immersiveness. The specific points people are listing as being disappointing are a need to articulate what is more of a general "this just isn't that great" impression.

Lightning isn't likely to strike twice, especially after a decade of epic-fantasy-overload.

Basically, Yeti's first two sentences.

Denny’s is in the middle of a new Hobbit-themed promotion.

Before I say one more word I want you to seriously consider what I just said. DENNY’S! I’ve talked about Denny’s before, but let me make something clear: I like to build my own grandslam but I despise Denny’s, and when I discovered that they were partnering with the Hobbit I flipped out.

That’s NOTHING compared to how much I flipped out when I saw that they’re offering “Radagast’s Red Velvet Pancake Puppies.”

Is anybody else pissed about this? For the love of all that is holy.

For those of you that don’t know, Radagast is a wizard from the Lord of the Rings universe; and just like all wizards he is given a specific color. Remember how Gandalf was “the Grey” and Saruman was “the White”? Actually when Gandalf came back he was suddenly “the White” and had a new cloak and staff, remember?

So what color do you think Radagast is?

BROWN! Radagast the freaking Brown!!!

I seem to recall seeing “Red Velvet Pancake Puppies” on Denny’s menu within the last year. You mean to tell me that Denny’s—the powerhouse brand that America loves so much it’s being associated with some of the most anticipated films in history—is recycling an old menu item and presenting it as new, while SIMULTANEOUSLY associating RADAGAST THE BROWN with RED pancakes?!?!

AAAAAH!

And to top it all off, the Twitter mobile site doesn’t seem to work for me anymore, so I wasn’t able to tweet about this and demand an answer from Denny’s until hours and hours after I discovered it.

Talk about first world problems—I got middle earth problems!

I don't see what the big deal is with proclaiming how Jackson fell short with this movie. I don't care, I'm still going to buy it and watch it many times, but I will always be disappointed with this. Reading a lot of the critic reviews, now, I'm going to have to say I agree with a number of them.
I expected less, but not this less.

i hate when they talk to eachother telepathically...makings goofy faces and gestures and shit to let you know they're talking without words.

Cherhoniak was so buthurt that I didnt like it...he thinks he's going to convince me otherwise with his words.

its suppose to have a less serious tone than the LOTR trilogy. its suppose to be a childrens fantasy tale.. what do you expect?

Hopefully not everyone will disagree with me, but I think there were a lot of improvements to the screenplay over the book. I mean that change from Bilbo finding the ring when he wakes up from being unconscious to him seeing it fall out of Gollum's pocket added a sense of foreboding to what possession of the ring could do.

For the record, just because the Hobbit has a more lighthearted feel to it than the LotR doesnt mean that it is supposed to be childish or goofy.

I bet if the hobbit came out first instead of LOTR movies, everyone would rag on the LOTR movies like they are the hobbit because of the "only the first album is real" mentality.

I havent seen it yet, but I had a feeling this would be the case as soon as I heard who was on the film crew, not to mention the fact that they were making it a fucking trilogy. Because if theres one thing big time movie executives know, its that AMERICA LOVEEEES A TRILOGY SO I DONT CARE HOW YOU DO IT BUT I WANT THREE MOVIES OUT OF THIS

Put it this way, when Thorin started singing his lament, I walked out of the theater and went to get food for about 15 minutes. There was a lot that bothered me and I could go into greater detail but for now I think "that'll do it."
