yeah, apparently now the cryptopsy thing is tentative, we are waiting on Flo. But even if they didnt play, its still a sick clinic/benefit. Flo and Derek are doing a duet! you cant beat that, plus awesome equipment is being auctioned off!

Derek Roddy is a terrible drummer... i can play faster double bass than him.

haha, yeah ok buddy...whatever you say. keep saying that to yourself.

im gonna be there just for flo and derek everyone else is just an added bonus...and if cryptopsy does play, although it sounds like its not gonna happen, then....fuck yeah!!!!!

Flo is over-rated though... Derek destroys him

i don't know about over-rated....ill give you that you can make a strong argument about derek being better but to say that derek "destroys" flo is goin a little overboard...
 ____________________________________
[May 21,2004 8:11am - anonymous  ""]
i agree. derek and flo are two totally different drummers. i think derek is more of an aggressive drummer, flo is a more techy drummer. either way, the both of them are incredible jazz and latin musicians.

I just wanna see cryptopsy, so fuck going now.

Being a drummer myself, both Flo and Derek are solid drummers, but when it comes down to who is better? I'd definitely pick Flo any day. I don't think it's fair to say he's overrated because the guy can basically back up the claims. Roddy is fast but Flo sounds like he has more than 2 arms on Whisper Supremacy. Hate Eternal as a whole isn't near Cryptopsy's level.

hate eternal and cryptopsy are two totally different styles, though. HE is way more aggressive, and full fledge all the time, Cryp. to me is a more techy band. either way, they both are on the same level percussion-wise. the two are incredibly well rounded musicians.

indeed... but from what i have heard from Cryptopsy... i just dont see how everyone can say he is SOOOOOOOOOOOOO amazing. good, yes... amazing, no. but thats just from Cryptopsy's material...

Flo also plays in a jazz project. he's capable of two technical drumming styles.

Flo's great, he's my favorite drummer of all time, but he cheats. Why do his blasts always seem to disappear?
I can't believe both Flo and Derek will be in Woonsocket! That is the last place on earth I'd expect to see them give a demo, I gotta see this shit. Looks like I will turn into a Woonsocket Rocket after all.

his blasts seem to 'disappear' to you, because hes not triggering his snare drum. some of his blasts are gravity blasts, and its hard to get a loud sound out of doing that..

[May 23,2004 6:00pm - The_ExhumeD ""]
what the fuck is a gravity blast. Im not a drummer here

best drummer mike portonoy of dream theatre, have you heard his solos

[May 24,2004 3:46pm - anonymous  ""]
a gravity blast is when you incorporate the rim of the drum to get really fast blastbeats, its hard to explain.

Oh sorry, you don't win the case of fish balls and lizard testicles. Flo plays what is called a Hyper-Blast. It loses it's sound after awhile do to the wrist motion being used. A Gravity-Blast it is what was introduced by such drummers as Johnny Rabb and is used mainly in Origin's music. John Longstreth introduced this to us on the first Origin cd, who actually learned it from their original drummer. Hellhammer does it, John does it, as do others. You do incorporate the rim of the snare however you use the rebound of the bottom part of the hit and you use your fingers not your wrists. When done right it is awesome to incorporate into your music. Not that I am a drummer or anything....

Ok well being a drummer yourself you should be able to hear the diversity in Derek Roddys drumming. He can back up his claims just as well as Flo. Derek does alot of Latin stuff, Flo does alot of jazzy type stuff. To say there are not of equal caliber is just an ignorant statement to make. They both have their great things that they do so well. Listen to some old Malevolent Creation"In Cold Blood" to be exact. Way ahead of it's time. Council of the Fallen is another. Diversify yourself Bro......

I had a great time. Indeed, all the drummers kicked ass. I won a handfull of shit(vhs's, sticks, autographed skins, cd,t-shirt, instrutional book) It was good to see some metal heads there and of course, the rev, providing us with pics.
How about the chick holding all the auction goods:spineyes:

Yep, a great time was had by me also. No Cryptopsy, but oh well, they said they'd be coming back to make up for it. I won absolutely nothing, but my kookus of a friend is the loud annoying one who bought the cymbal autographed by a whole bunch of people for $400 (that he didn't have) I was sitting next to him.

And yeah, that girl holding the auction goods, daaaaaaaaaaamn,

That show was awsome

Bernard Pretty Pertie was my favorite, he was so into the zone, his whole self was sooo into it, you had to love it. Espeacially the parts where he was singing along.

That Cuban group was really killer, the main leader guy was so damn happy.

That auction was pretty funny, elll ooooh elll @ Tim getting up in the middle of the other auction to bid on that cymbal. I would of bid him out though if I had the money, I need that Trapt signature...jay kay ell oh ell

Don was insane

I hope they continue this convention because it was alot of fun....and hopefully they come through with what ever they said about bringing Cryptopsy back. oh em gee, if Cryptopsy were there, that would of put that day through the roof in levels of coolness.

i think flo probably woulda blown derek roddy away. but i don't truly know, since i've never heard roddy outside of Hate Eternal in which his drumming consists of "blast........hit,hit, blast........................................... tom roll, blast........................... end of song."
 __________________________________________
[Jul 18,2004 10:40pm - KevinTheSprigg  ""]
He really surprised me. I thought his solo would consist of blast blast blast blast roll blast blast etc. He out doing that, and continued on it for a few minutes, but then he went into some really cool grooves and just improvised (using every piece of his massive kit) with any insane blasts or fills. He did a really crazy one handed snare roll a few times. After grooving for 10 or so minutes, he went back to a crazy blast hit roll fest for the last couple minutes. He did a fantastic job and apparently (judging from some people's reactions after) really impressed a lot of the non metal people there.

I mistype, "He started out doing that" and "without any insane blasts or fills"
