They could also do some trading in the offseason for players or picks. I'd say they get ballsy and trade Nick Kazur. Vollmer pretty much stole his friggin job and there are teams out there dying for even decent O-linemen. That and I wonder if they honestly expect anything to finally come out of the Shawn Crabble project. I swear, the guy is gonna miss this season from getting AIDS while falling out of a plane or something.

RustyPS said:I think he'd be legit though...only problem is his injury history, at least IMO

that's like saying the Lions made a mistake taking Calvin Johnson because they failed miserably taking WRs in the past...Watson was a mistake, doesn't mean Gresham will be

Given the role tight ends have played in the Patriots offense in the last few years (block, and STFU) I don't see the Pats spending their first rounder on a TE short of being the next Tony Gonzalez. And the fact that he's coming off a major injury should be another big red flag. The last thing we need is another high draft pick sitting around on IR.

If the Pats pass on another Clay Matthews I'm going to lose my mind. Granted we got Pat Chung, Darius Butler, and Vollmer out of it. But trading up to get Ron Brace when there were good passing rushing DE's on the board still burns me up to this day. I've got to believe that the plan was to find some talent for the outside of our front 7 in this year's draft or free agency. Having great young DB's isn't going to mean shit if they can't get any help up front.

So no goddamn tight ends!!!!

I think with a new OC (PLEASE FOR THE LOVE OF JEEBUZ), and a physically gifted TE with hands would change the role of a TE in the offense....think about it...how long has it been since the Pats have had a TE they could rely on? Fauria maybe?

I'm with you on Matthews. I was so high on him last year and to see the mayhem he wreaks for the Packers kills me. Hell, they could have at least grabbed Malaluga (sp?) in the 2nd round. He had a pretty good rookie year with the Bengals. What the fuck have we gotten out of Brace or even Chung at this point?!

I will admit, I'd rather have Matthews than Brace at this point

imagine a 2nd round of Chung, Matthews, Butler, and Vollmer...man oh man...most likely best 2nd round of all time

that said, I LOVE the last draft....Butler, Vollmer, Chung, Edelman, and Pryor all contributed...Brace should be better with time....and if Tate and McKenzie can come back healthy and can play....that's 8 picks that could pan out in one draft...pretty incredible

Chung is the Jamaican/Japanese Rodney Harrison. Just you wait. Just you wait.

Alright, I'm gonna hold you to that. I DO have faith in McKenzie and Tate to make some waves next year.

agreed...and while I like McGowan, I think his emergence early in the season cost Chung a bunch of playing time

Wheatley sucks so maybe he gets the boot and you see both get more playing time.

I don't think Wheatley saw the field this season at all

Wheatley and Wilhite will be the Walmart 3rd shift's new dynamic duo next september.

Jerry Hughes highlights

bennyhillifier

very fast, good play recognition, good pursuit, great motor

my concern is in most of this video, he's playing almost exclusively with hand down on the defensive left, meaning he's doing all this against right tackles...in a more complicated defense, he might not be as useful, and I have no idea if he's capable of covering anyone, which he would need to do with the Pats, or any other 3-4 team for that matter

Wilhite is who I meant to say. my bad.
Rusty, you should hope my idea of trading Kaczur happens then.

What are people's thoughts on Arrelious Benn (WR Illinois)? When I saw this guy's sophomore year effort I thought he was going to be a top 10 pick, but I guess he had a pretty disappointing junior year.

I approve Arillius Benn.

bennyhillifier

from what I've seen of him, great breakaway speed, good body control, can break tackles (although that might be shitty college CBs who can't tackle), elusiveness, can kick/punt return

not opposed to this guy

EDIT: here's what WalterFootball says
"Arrelious Benn, Illinois
Height: 6-2. Weight: 214.
Projected 40 Time: 4.46.
Projected Round (2010): 2.
1/3/10: Arrelious Benn has declared for the 2010 NFL Draft. Benn had a disastrous junior season mired by drops and poor effort. Still, it was a great move to get out of the Illinois sinking ship.

11/7/09: Needs to practice catching toilet paper in the super market; his hands suck.

10/10/09: Juice Williams' ineptness has debacled Arrelious Benn, who has only 10 catches in four games. Benn's role in Illinois' goofy offense will cost him on Draft Day."

so now I don't know if his hands really do suck or if he was just looking to get out of Illinois (also a red flag, means if he doesn't like his situation, he won't produce)

Sorry, my football songs comment came off way less light-hearted than intended.
