_______________________________________ [Nov 28,2004 3:08pm - armageddonday ""] This show was fun, I think the brownies helped...but it doesn't seem like you guys liked them that much.8^( Abhorred kicked ass, as usual. I really enjoyed their set and it seems that the rest of the crowd did as weel, they got a really good response. I couldn't care less about 2 Slayer cover songs in a row though... Cryptic Warning were good but they set up too fast and there was barely anytime between them and Abhorred (it seems like it anyway), so I didn't pay much attention at the beginning of their set. I also thought the bass sounded "weird", I liked them better last time I saw them at the Chopping Block. John and Jeff...I was too busy giving cookies and getting drinks, I just caught that Saint Vitus song, took me a while to figure out why I knew that song so well... The Old Men fucking kicked ass, I felt like 12 years younger, it was really refreshing, straight up punk, no bullshit you get anything from Discharge, GBH, The Exploited, a tiny bit of Ramones, Crass and Conflict...defenitely a big UK punk influence, I loved it. Jeff told me that they were going to play shows. I hope he's not full of shit. Hirudnea, a long time since I haven't seen them and man I fucking enjoyed it. Getting better and better. We need a recording. I think the only thing I have from them is a demo... I now have to think twice about bringing Troll with me anywhere...he kept on going at home too for a while, then I decided to go to bed. I hoped I had a lock in my bedroom (j/k), he was stubbling in the kitchen for hours, being a troll. |

_______________________________________ [Nov 28,2004 4:27pm - armageddonday ""] They were brownies...no cookies. I kept saying cookies cause that's usually what I make. Carina, you'll have some for your birthday ;) Dont you worry. |

___________________________________________ [Nov 29,2004 12:27am - BestialOnslaught ""] I forgot for a bit (must have been the beers), thanks again for the brownie Anne! I'm sure it helped quite a bit, but with all the beer, Capt. Morgan's and weed I was smoking, it's hard to tell! Troll is definitely a character haha... I didn't even have a conversation with him but every time I'd walk by he'd give me a big drunken metal grin. I think he was beyond forming sentences by that point anyway. |

Unfortunately we were kicked out after our set, so we didn't see the Old Men or Hirudinea but... Abhorred were excellent. They have great energy on stage and I loved alot of the newer material I don't think I've heard before. Cryptic Warning: I didn't feel too good about our set, actually. We should have taken the time to actually do a soundcheck before we started playing because the bass was way too loud for the first two songs and I had no idea until the sound guy came over and tapped me. Also, it was my first time gigging with that bass and I didnt take the time to eq it properly. My tone last night would have been more appropriate for more laid back music like hip-hop or reggae but sounded weird with fast thrash metal. Oh well... Anyways, thanks to Joe for setting up the show and to John for asking us to play. Also, thanks to Carina for the awesome pics. Those are some of the best ones of us I've ever seen. |
_________________________________________ [Nov 29,2004 9:21am - KING NOOSEBOMB ""] GREAT SHOW THE OTHER NIGHT. I WAS SURPRISED HOW MANY PEOPLE LIKED THE OLD MEN. WASN'T SURE HOW IT WOULD GO OVER. WE WILL COME OUT OF RETIREMENT TO PLAY MORE SHOWS. "HELLBENT FOR RETIREMENT" WHO THE HELL EVER SAID THAT? HAHA! |
_______________________________________ [Nov 29,2004 9:26am - Joe/NotCommon ""] I bet if this show was not a metal show the age thing wouldn't have been a problem, that guy is a total fucking dick. If that was really the law, which it is not, then all the other 21+ clubs would have been enforcing it for years. If a club is 21+, performers and people working the show in some capacity (video taping, reviewing, photographing) who are under 21 are allowed to be inside. I know for a fact that this is how it works, that guy at O'Brien's was just being a dickhead, probably mad that he had to work a metal show. Maybe someone should inform him that the only reason he has a fucking job is because metal shows at Obriens do so well. |
_________________________________________ [Nov 29,2004 9:27am - KING NOOSEBOMB ""] BY THE WAY, IF ANYONE CAN THINK OF A BETTER NAME THAN THE OLD MEN PLEASE LET ME KNOW. IT'S KIND OF FUNNY, BUT IT KIND OF SUCKS. |

The law is 21plus unless you're working there, then its 18, by playing in a band at a venue, is that not working there? |

________________________________ [Nov 29,2004 5:07pm - Hooker ""] I went and caught Abhorred and Cryptic Warning. Abhorred was damn good. They sounded like they were about to fly off the tracks at any minute. They were a good mishmash of all sorts of genres. They need lead boosts and tube amps though. Cryptic was good. During some parts of some songs my jaw actually slowly dropped. Onstage mixing is key though. On defyunlearn the picture of me taking notes is during one of Dave's solos. |
