the new hilton it's awesome.

THE ARCHITECT: (main stage) these dudes are awesome. When we came in the sampple was playing and I told carina they were playing but she didn't get it. At the end of their set, I missed it but the drummer hucked his drum stool into the crowd and some kid caught it and lobbed it back at the stage. I should tell you at this point, Keith was walkin around like captain america or colbert with an american flag drapped around his body. I realized what was happenin when the drummers tool magially materialized into keith' face. The stool plopped to the ground. Don't worry about the stool, it was fine. Mr. Hell on the other hand was not so fine. proving once again that skin is no matched for metal as he spurted blood from his head. I think he ended up makin much more of a statement in the end than he had originally planned on. Nothing more movin than a blood soaked american flag. carina said he went out and shook the hand of the dude that tossed it back.

miles between, the: (second stage) wow, people were all dancin to them. They sounded a bit more like the acacia strain, imho.

beyond the embrace: (main stage) the singer cut his hair! I was told by some one that this made him look cutier. I think he looked more like a 70's pornstar. They played some new tracks that were heavier than some of the stuff they did on the last CD.

ALETHIAN: (second stage) reminded me of if hope dies. They are signed to ironclad too and the singer's got long hair. Coincidents abound.

hallows eve: (main stage) wow, I didn't know that this was THE hallows eve. Holy cow! I have plenty of their stuff on vinyl (well, mostly comps). I don't know if it's a one time thing or not but it was awesome (wll lillian axe do this ever?). they had a fill in from rigamortis.

epicurean: (second stage) no girl bass player anymore. Since they broke up and reformed, they look a lot more styling.

network, the: (main stage) friggin savages! Watching them on this big stage gave me goosebumps. I'm glad they have made it this far. Within the first song, all over pete's pedals were disconnected and by the second song, he was up on the krank cabs, kicked over one of the heads, and was smashing the crap out of his guitar. After being one of the only people to scream out "A PERFECT WORLD!!" I ran up real quickly to shoot epicurean and then get down start for the ending. As a gang of their friend stormed the stage screaming "what if we never wake up!" the stage went into the-network's own version of creative chaos. Mics topped, and everyone ended up on the floor.

demiricous: (main stage) I don't know if I saw them with the current drummer, but he is a perfect fit. Sound-wise, appearance-wise, his metal falsetto, and he's got tons of energy. if you gave him a mic, he would probably scream the entire set. These guys rule no matter what anyone from the midwest tells me. I just wished I could see them in a closer, more personal space than this huge stage. Something like obriens. The pit in front of them sometimes seems like an impenetrable mote between them and the audience. It's a little hard to cross that devide while trying to play and sing at the same time.

hey rev. i wanna know what songs God dethroned play. Mainly what they still play off of The grand grimmoire

I love that album.

destro, the: (second stage) since th_network played downstairs, they got a super long set up time to keep the stage on time. I kept lookig out at they looked even less set up than the time before! Arg! by the time they were kicked off, STF had already been playing for 5 minutes so I snapped some quick shots and ran down stairs.

since the flood: (main stage) great performance. It's amazingg how many of their regular fans were rolling over people's heads. the security guard was just pushing people back into the crowd. I was afraid of gettting crowd punched over the barricade. They stopped play and left the stage after 24K, but then came back to everyone surprise and played in my way.

[Apr 28,2007 4:27pm - the_reverend ""]
SHAI HALUD: (main stage) matt fox's birthday. Carina and I yelled it at him on stage. The new singer looks really familiar. He was a bit unsure of himself. I saw matt pointing him around. They still had the same drummer from versoma or LGS or whatever band he was in. Sounded really good and the crowd was climbing on each other to participate.

SONS OF AZREAL: (second stage) wtf! This band was a milder vital remains.. Yet the entire front row was all 15 year old kids looking at their neighbor to see what to do next. Is this the next insanely popular genre? Like christian core had it's year, deathcore had it's year and now it's time for blasphemy? The band was almost as tr00 and kvlt as one could be. Shirt-wise at least. They all had shirts from reputable metal bands. The music was excellent. Like I said, vital remains, but a little milder. There wasn't any of the over the top riffs or drumming. Just pure blackened deathmetal. Hail satan.

3 inches of blood: (main stage) carina said rush. I can see that, I really can. The band is fun to watch live, but I don't really like them. I'm oing to stick with the rush analogy.. But add that they have powermetal vocals at points. Drummer was high energy. At the end of the set, he jumped out of the kit. Managing to launch himself between the cymbols. he landed backwards and hit the last note as he landed.

apiary: (second stage) I missed them on the x dalla brawla tour. It was cool to see them, but I wasn't impressed. I think they need more crowd participation in their set and most people just stood there. Also the singer was mostly in the back with the drummer.

forever in terror: (second stage) cool stuff. Hardcore with jow satriani riffs. There were tons of kids circle pitting, etc... The band's really high energy on stage.

goatwhore: (main stage) sammy's birth day. They were really good. it sucked at the end of their set when ben said they had one more son, but instead the lights went on. sucky. I wanted another story! afterwards, I text'd carina a lyric, but she didn't get it.

gaza: (second stage) gaza's got a posse in the_network. Kevin hoped on stage and threw the (unusually tall) singer asside and took over on the mic before flipping over into the crowd. This started a bunch of other crowd surfers. They still played the technical parts, but came across so much heavier live. They are playing 285585 times in the area in the comng month. I command thee to seek them out. Even the free show on may 3rd in lowell.

impious: (main stage) ok, why did I confused this band with the xtian hardcore band imperial? They were pure swedish deathmetal and reminded me a lot of dismember. Heck, the singer looks very similar to the singer for dismember. They tried to get some crowd participation, but they didn't play along. There was a big gapping hole where people should be yelling.

psyopus: (second stage) since when did psyopus envoke a hope conspiracy type crowd reaction. People were stage diving like it's nobody's business. Their set started off weird cause they had a fill in singer. Was that the same guy who filled in for FASSW? Looks similar. Still, the masterful work as they charmed the crowd into jumping off the stage. Lemmings trial jumping off the ledge.

god dethroned: (main stage) it was bascally all new songs. I was thinking "henry don't fail me!" but in the end, they didn't play the songs I wanted to here. Oh well. This makes their 3rd metalfest. The first time would have been the best, this the second best. The new songs are great, but I don't know them yet.

ANOMOSITY: (second stage) damn it, I came in after they were threw confetti (or possibly feathers) and got called down to the main stage for lizzy borden before I could snap off more that a couple pictures. And they had a trampoline on stae with them. Arg! Someone tell me it wasn't as good as I'm imagining it to be.

lizzy borden: (main stage) I ran down cause the first thing lizzy borden was doing was killing misstress julia (yeah!). They slit her throat and she lay dead on the stage until a stage hand took her away. Anyhow, that was after a super long set up time. I have no idea how they played that long and set up for that long. The sound in the mix for all the channels kept etting change while they played. They also killed a stripper on stage. Her shirt got ripped open and her neck bloodied. The singer went through more wardrobe chanes than paris hilton. Skulls, blood, axes, bats, and more fun! The singer poured fake blood from his palms out on people in the crowd. Oh yeah, jack frost played with them too. Does anyone know the other band he played in that I photo'd? anyone in the crowd (front row at least) got free passes to the strippers strip club. I doubt anyone in the front was old enough to go.

job for a cowboy: (main stage) now this is the band that I wished I had seen the other time I saw them. Much much tighter. Everyone in the audience seemed to have something important to yell at the band. They were evenly devided in "you suck" and "play knee deep". I got stuck in front of the constantly headbanging singer. His hair was wet so every bang of his head made a fine cool mist. It even smelled clean. I have a new motto for them JFAC: like a summers day. Anyone? Oh well. They ended with knee deep and it was picture perfect to the MP3 I heard on... Guess where. Myspace. all over a big surprise from them I guess they didn't like reading reviews that they sounded not so good so they got good.

red chord, the: (main stage) when I hit the bathroom afterwards, I heard many "I saw them for the for the first time last year at ozzy fest" ha! they also had a CD signing. Compared with all the other bands, metal fest gave them a lot of time. My 15-20 minute set ADD riddled brain even noticed it. standing in one place for more than 5 minutes makes me antsy. Speaking of ants, they ended their set with DIDY and not antman. All of those 30 minutes, I got an average of 1-2 crowd surfers landing on me. If you look at the pictures, you will see air fey in there again. Seems I snap all of his "last" shows. ha HA.

BLACK DAHLIA MURDER: (main stage) really heavey with shannon (ex-all that remains) on drums. He's tight, technical and crazy heavy. This is his first time he played with them. Their set was excellent. They even played a new song. My only complaint was with the hi-beam back-lighting. I couldn't get a focus on anything to save my life. The crowd got even more frenzied for BDM. This band sells out huge places now and by them selves would pack in 3/4 of this place.

the brought out brian slegal at the end and gave him an esp guitar signed by everyone. awsome dude.

cannibal corpse: (main stage) longish set list. They have such a huge collection to pull from that they could easily play a lot longer. The rumor going into this was that chris barnes would come out for stripped raped and strangled. We'll see. now that I finally noticed bass drops on a real bass, I noticed all the bass drops their songs have. I was really impressed with the last 4 songs. That's some damn fine CC. The surprise guest for the last song turned out to be trevor from black dalhia murder. Unfortunantely, I don't think he knew stripped rape and strangled at all. Goodtimes, but whatever.

i cant believe i missed the network! ugh. i had no idea they were playing that early and was probably smoking cigarettes outside or walking to starbucks with pires.

the miles between were great this year. kids went pretty nuts for them. no voice for the voiceless though...kinda sad, i love that song.

overall since the flood and gaza were my two favs for the day. lizzy borden was actually wicked entertaining and much better than i thought they would have been.

shai hulud (pretty much the whole reason i went this year) played a pretty good set, id have to say the worst ive seen them though. that had to be the new singers first show with them. he seemed like he was nervous and unsure of himself. they also have a new second guitarist who was wearing an emperor shirt. he was good. they sounded good overall but it wasnt the explosion that hulud usually brings i think because of the singers lack of stage presence and delivery. i hope he gets better because i love this band. they also had to follow STF who killed it.

job for a cowboy...despite all the bs everyone talks about them, i think this band is pretty damn good. the singer is avoiding BREEs on the new songs which also sound way more death metal, way less death core. i was impressed with them overall.

the headlining special performance was so fucking lame...they did 2 metallica songs 2 slayer songs a thin lizzy song and some song i didnt know. pretty much everyone besides the bassist and drummer (the dude from as i lay dying) kept changing and were messing up parts like crazy. they also didnt figure out any kind of organization for it since we had to wait 5-10 minutes for everyone to find Buzz from Unearth and get him tuned up to play in the middle of the "set". i should have just left after cannibal.

overall it was a fun year though.
rev i saw the end of animositys set...i thought it was ok, nothing special. im also not a very big fan. by the way thanks for sporting that DC tee today!

I was around, mostly on the bar level downstairs and then in the balcony near the end, RED CHORD - to the end.

I met "Yummy" and saw a few other RTTPers, like Blue, Scott ZIRCON, Marsinator, MetalGeorge, Pam, etc.

Saw some GOREALITY, GODLESS RISING and a bunch of PORPHYRIA shirts walking around.

from what i noticed some bands used those heads/cabs if they didn't bring there own.
and if they did they were in back of the kranks to look like every band was playing a krank.
most of the cabs were used throughout the show i'm not sure about the networks set since they use mesa's i think.... but they were real and those do go for a lot of money

for instance colin of arabia were playing with kranks and having trouble dialing in the correct sound so they were playing around with the knobs
