True. If the person is told to keep it to themselves and they don't shut up, then fire them.

lol, the kid should have said she was making him uncomfortable like a fucking human and left it at that, not claimed that her life decisions were "bad stuff"

and since when is not 100000% expected for a woman to talk about HER WEDDING the month at work before she GOES AWAY TO GET MARRIED, gay or not, christ, he makes it out like she is antagonizing him by being stoked about HER WEDDING

have none of you ever worked with or known anyone who was getting married? it's all they fucking talk about, dude needs to stop being a closet case and grow up, it annoys everyone, deal with it

Transgressing religious beliefs is more than "annoy."

Do you support gay marriage only because the alternative "annoys" you?

No; and he feels just as strongly about the other point of view.

Sorry to hear you two are incompatible. No gay marriage for you!

I'm bummed, but I think I could do better than that dude...

religious belief has no place in the workplace, neither does oozing about your wedding, gay or otherwise, and neither does telling your superior that her lifestyle is "bad stuff"

also, what jim said is 100% true, if the kid went to hr first, he'd have been fine

He can feel as strongly as he wants, as long as he realizes he has NO LEGAL GROUND to stand on.

See ya later religious tolerance, hello humanism!

I REALLY hate to say it, because i don't think hurting someones fucking feelings SHOULD be grounds for being dismissed, but it is..... and the "double standard" argument that people will make about his feelings/beliefs being offended is invalid because of one simple thing. He didn't complain first. If he had went to HR and told them that this person was trying to make him feel bad about being christian, then it WOULD have went the other way. But he didn't, and they did.

its fucking sad as hell that people can't be comfortable in their workplace and be who they are while they are there. I could care less if a co-worker came up to me and seriously asked me to lay down so they could masturbate on my face. I'm not gonna go to HR after ONE comment. if its a problem that persists for atleast a couple weeks, sure, i might say something, but even then, it would be more like "hey... can you say something to Joe Schmoe, he's almost getting out of hand..." not "OMG I WILL SUE THIS COMPANY BECAUSE HE SAID SOMETHING ONCE THAT DOESN'T REALLY EFFECT MY ABILITY TO PERFORM MY JOB. I WANT MY FIVE SECONDS IN THE SPOTLIGHT BOOHOOO!".

people like that make me fucking sick. i could give a shit less if a person was gay. i could care less if a person loved to snowball semen mixed with diarrhea... hell i could give a shit less if they gargled their own acid reflux induced vomit in front of me: i am not going to potentially ruin someone's life by getting them fired over something that doesnt interrupt my ability to do my job and go on and carry out my day otherwise. it takes a true piece of shit to do something like that.

this is a problem that "verbal sexual harassment" has created. if a combination of words ruins your life to the point where you need a ludicrous amount of money to bandage your emotional rat claw-esque scratch... you should recruit the help of a barrett m107 to help fix your train of thought.

physical contact, however, is a different story.

if i had any say in this... i would fire the asshole that whined and bitched about the religious guy. you can't ask for something, then cry about it after you get what it is that you were looking for. granted his views on a subject werent directly asked for, but baiting someone is still searching for something specific.

if that "co-worker" i mentioned earlier kept bothering me by bringing up how awesome his partner was at snowballing shitcum, i would just tell him that i could care less and dont believe in the act of doing such a thing, which it seems like the religious guy did something similar. if he said that he morally didnt believe in homosexuality, there wouldnt have been an issue.

a man's beliefs are a man's beliefs, regardless of what drives them.

i have seen instances where a person that is in the gay community baits an employee of an establishment that i worked at in to getting pissed off and saying something to them, which in turn prompts the master baiter (HA!) to become a cry baby weasel and demand to speak to a manager and then demand to have that person fired or else they will sue. this is a no bullshit, real-world situation that probably goes on more than anyone would like to admit. its shitty. if gay people want credibility, then dont throw your gayness in other people's faces. i love shoe-horning my giant two-handed BROADsword into vaginas, but you dont see me marching in parades about it. actually, i'm gonna start a straight person parade. the plight of the straight person that deals with overly dramatic gay people is in dire need of public awareness.

fuck your inability to just go on like everyone else and go to work and not rub your "lifestyle" in other people's faces.

sorry for wall of text.

I make it a point to offend anyone of an Abrahamic faith as much as possible. Especially Christians, do to their proximity in numbers to me.

I do try to respect people on all fronts, but someone's human-ness has nothing to do with their beliefs, no matter how much they try. I respect your right to any opinion, but I certainly do not have to respect the opinion itself (only as good as the facts that back it up!)

Unless of course if you're working in an office/corporate setting. Then you DO have to respect someone elses opinion whether or not they can back it up. Like i said, i don't agree with it, but in todays workforce you have to be constantly aware of people that you may offend. Yes i know how crazy that sounds but i also know it's how it works. Matter of fact we just had a course on it here, it's called sensitivity training. And unlike any clear thinking adult would think, following it's guidelines is mandatory.

You're right. It has to be that way though, or companies couldn't presently exist. They'd have to hire only types of people that they could imagine getting along.

I've never had to expose anything about myself or my beliefs at work because I've never worked a job that required me to do so...I make it a point to stay out of conversations of a political/religious/sexuality nature and be syrupy nice to everyone I work with because it removes all headaches.

I offend on message boards and on my own time, not on the clock.

Bottom line: you have to conform and be pc in an office job. /THREAD..seriously
I can't stand the relugious nutbag that sits next to me but avoid all discussions about stuff like that.
I'm already getting shit for growing my hair out again too. Coform or be let go. Simple as that.

An office job is putting on an act every day, biting your tounge and dancing around words. Sounding professional, because it makes you look better, gets people to respect you. "Conforming" is a strong word, more like keeping your mouth shut for your own good on the clock. The older guys I work with would make a sailor blush and the women aren't much better, so I have it alright.

Because not everyone agrees with your choice.

If I decided to send my kids to Jesus camp, I wouldn't talk about it with the office atheist.

That's passive aggression and provocation, and people of that nature are the ultimate parasites.

You wouldn't but many do and would regardless of where they are. You could talk about it all you want as long as it technically doesn't interfere with job performance, but if the Athiest told you that Jesus was bullshit you could complain to HR.

Either way, It doesn't matter, if he was uncomfortable he could have dealt with it in a professional manner rather than insulting her. Note how he keeps saying "So called fiance". He's a fucking homophobe Christian douche, and it's bullshit that this story is being used as propaganda to make more people hate gay people essentially.

When you go on company lunches, do they have to bring specially prepared aborted fetus to eat or do you have to go to places that serve that?
