i just realized that the router firmware on my linksys was out of date...
so i decided to update it...
right after i updated it, it is not recognized on my cpu [wirelessly] and is not recognized when i plug it in to the slots on the back, anyone have any ideas of what i can do to fix this?

Keep your computer plugged in via the wired cable. There's a reset pin in the back of the router. Hold it for like 20 seconds and it should reset back to factory defaults. Reboot your machine (easier than troubleshooting if you have a new IP via DHCP). And try http://192.168.1.1 again. Username should be blank. Password should be "admin".

dd-wrt is sexy... I would use it, but I just bought a recertified netgear
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833122274
but I'm going to use it for the draft-n and gig-port switch to replace a gig switch and a a/b/g AP that I have.

Now that I think about it, I'm going to still need my 54RT downstairs. maybe I will put dd-wrt on it.

I just realized that I have to keep the linksys downstairs and put in a gig switch (unless I put the netgear down there) otherwise, I won't have gig from my desktop to my storage. lame.

holy crap... if I wanted the linksys version of what I bought for $34.99, I would have to spend over $100.

here is the deal your router is working as a switch or bridge and it only knows the mac address of your computer which was probably cloned on the router
