friggin' patriot act[views:4525][posts:6]________________________________ [Dec 2,2004 5:43pm - damnose ""] I've been trying to take out a final loan to pay for college, and my application has been taking forever to process. I finally found out today that the holdup was due to missing information in my application, which I needed to supply in accordance with the PATRIOT act. I moved into a new apartment recently, and since none of my mail has actually been sent here yet they can't verify that I live... where I live. So I have to fax/send a copy of the lease agreement and my passport, etc. I'm not complaining about having to send extra information, even if they didn't inform me I would have to do this on the application, and I will probably have some late fees tacked onto my account because of the delay. But what I don't understand is how this is supposed to "fight terrorism." Any terrorist can get a lease, and faxing a fake passport or driver's license (or hell, even a real one if you don't have a criminal record) isn't exactly difficult. These laws only affect people who abide by them, and anyone who doesn't care about blowing up a building and killing people certainly won't care about breaking or skirting a few laws. sorry, end rant |

You'd think AOL would have invented an emoticon for it by now. but figuring it out is half the fun, it would be pointless to say something sarcastic and then actually say it was sarcastic. stupid internet |
