WOW. I don't know how word about this spread so quickly (I only posted the ctmetalfest page less than a week ago), but I've been bombarded by phone calls/e-mails over the last few days from bands wanting to get on this. I guess I can't complain, I'm glad the word about the fest is getting out so quickly, and I appreciate all the suggestions made so far. I figure I might as well put everything out in the open at this point, that way everyone knows what to expect before contacting me. Right now, I'm looking to get between 1 - 3 headliners. A headliner would be a band that can guarantee at least 150 people. I know that's a high number, but I really want this to be successful. (I won't even put Suicide Dream in as one of the headliners unless I'm sure we can guarantee at least that number) So far I've pursued the following avenues: I've e-mailed Testament's management, asking what kind of pay guarantee they'd want, assuming they can do the date. Testament had actually been in negotiations with The Webster Theatre in Hartford, CT about playing a show there in September, but they were unable to come to an agreement (I know this because we often play with nationals there, and we were promised a slot with Testament when they came around, so I was constantly keeping tabs on the show with the guy who does booking at The Webster). However, Testament has since booked dates Japan the weekend before the 24th, and dates in Mexico (if I remember correctly) the weekend after, so scheduling may be an issue. Also, a buddy of mine knows Rob Thorne from Sacred Oath, who is good friends with Fates Warning, so I'm trying to contact them through that avenue. In the meantime, I sent an e-mail to Fates through their website, mentioning Rob's name as a reference. Also, Metal Fortress DJ Chrissy Root, who posted a glowing review of our band's last show, recently did an interview with the lead singer from Nevermore. I've asked her to get me a phone number so I can get in touch with their management as well. Out of the bands suggested to me so far, those are the only ones I'm sure would bring in 150+ people to CT. Of course, if anyone wants to debate me on that, I'm totally willing to listen, and I'll gladly consider other headliners as well. Regardless of the number of headliners, there will be fourteen support bands. The way it's shaping up, about half of them will be from within an hour of the venue, and the other half will be from MA, RI, and Southwestern CT. The seven bands within an hour of the venue will have to guarantee selling a minimum of thirty tickets to be put on the show, and the seven bands coming from further away will have to guaratnee selling a minimum of twenty-five tickets to be put on the show. 7 * 30 + 7 * 25 = 385 tickets minimum, so even if I can only get one headliner despite my best efforts, that will equal a minimum crowd of over 500 throughout the day/night, which means that every band playing should have a crowd of at least 250 watching them. That's great exposure for everyone involved, plus all support bands will make a minimum of $100 -$150. I've had most of the support bands handpicked since the beginning, but I am still taking suggestions on a the remaining slots, and I've contacted a few of the bands here that have been mentioned a lot (Cryptic Warning; tried to contact Catalyst but myspace was being gay and their contact page doesn't work, please post an e-mail address or phone number; also want to get in touch with HBBSI if there's an e-mail or phone number, I don't have AIM) Thanks again for all the suggestions coming, keep them coming... \m/
