Ok, are rackmounts basically the alternative to effects pedals?
What are the benefits of having a rackmount on your rig?

Basically, yes. Really, no.

What are the benefits of having a rackmount on your rig?

Not having (as much) on the floor. Not everything that comes in rackmount is available in a floor unit, not everything that comes in a floor unit is available in a rackmount. Many things are becoming available in both.

More specific questions will produce more specific answers.

Yeah, sorry about that. Basically, I'm only looking for a decent EQ and maybe some hum cancelation. Am I better off with pedals here?

depends on if you want to lug around pedals or lug around a rack.

unless you have a rack head setup or a pre/power amp rack setup already, i'd get pedals.

As far as EQs, unless you've got a shitload of money, Behringer makes decent product for money rackmount EQs and I'd venture that MXR's foot pedal EQs are a little better than your standard BOSS/Digitech, or at least they tend to have more bands to play with.

Rack gear is generally better in overall quality but if you dont already have rack gear and all you want is a noise suppressor and an EQ rig then go with pedals unless you dont mind lugging around a rack rig or your head is already in one...

Rack kicks ass because you can get a 31 band EQ which gives more room to really tweak your sound...

I'm considering investing in a nice hush pedal...
