Bush Plans Preemptive Nuclear Strike Against Iran

I don't know if this is a repost....but what the hell

here's the link:

http://www.atsnn.com/story/202781.html

and here's the full text:

"According to Pentagon and intelligence sources, the Bush administration plans preemptive strikes against Iran using bunker-busting tactical nuclear weapons. Seymour Hersh, the investigative reporter who broke the Abu Ghraib prisoner abuse scandal, also reports in an article appearing later today in the New Yorker magazine that some officers of the joint chiefs of staff, who were unsuccessful in removing the nuclear option from the table, may now be considering resignation.

original news source:

www.telegraph.co.uk
The Bush administration is planning to use nuclear weapons against Iran, to prevent it acquiring its own atomic warheads, claims an investigative writer with high-level Pentagon and intelligence contacts.

President George W Bush is said to be so alarmed by the threat of Iran's hard-line leader, Mahmoud Ahmedinejad, that privately he refers to him as "the new Hitler", says Seymour Hersh, who broke the story of the Abu Ghraib Iraqi prisoner abuse scandal.

Some US military chiefs have unsuccessfully urged the White House to drop the nuclear option from its war plans, Hersh writes in The New Yorker magazine. The conviction that Mr Ahmedinejad would attack Israel or US forces in the Middle East, if Iran obtains atomic weapons, is what drives American planning for the destruction of Teheran's nuclear programme.

This is a shocking development.

Even I find it hard to believe that Bush, let alone anyone else in the United States, would be willing to consider a preemptive NUCLEAR strike.

If true, we have slipped further down the slope than I could have ever possibly imagined.

God help us all.... "

yeah.....God help us all if this is true

A guy who's last name is: Ahmedinejad
A guy who's last name is the same word we use for women's pubic hair.

Why do either one of these clowns have access to nuclear weapons?

All George Bush cracks aside, why would anyone want Iran to have access to that sort of technology. Their leadership is totally unstable. They don't understand or address anything besides Allah this, kill Jews that, we hate America. They should take a look around at what's going on in the world, and realize that there's more to being a nation then just an arms race with the US. India, for example, is taking incredible steps to modernize it's country, building highways, increasing access to technology, creating new jobs (that don't involve carrying buckets on your head or picking trash), and increasing people's access to education. What's Iran going to have to show 10 years from now... sand, sand, sand, huge nuclear wasteland, sand, sand, turbans.

brilliantly said. Anyone who thinks Iran should have the 'right' to nukes should be deported to Iran because obviously they have a stake in an Iranian victory.

Ever been to Iran? Most people in Tehran have cell phones and satellite dishes that get music videos and CNN. Ahmadinejad is being cautiously applauded there (even by people who don't like him) for his domestic agenda, which includes investing Iranian money in the country's infastructure, instead of stashing it in Swiss banks (obviously, their government is still not doing nearly enough to bring jobs, culture, and technology to the people, but it's funny that you're cutting down Ahmadinejad in the same paragraph as criticizing Iran for domestic problems that he's actually combated).

India is also developing nuclear weapons, and with our help. We also gave Iran it's first nuclear reactor in the 1970's. In addition, Iran signed the nuclear non-proliferation treaty, and India still has not (nor has Pakistan or Israel). Iran will also not have nuclear capability for ten years, where India, Pakistan, Israel, and North Korea are way ahead.

Ahmadinejad's comments were about destroying the political entity of Israel, not about killing Jews. This has been pointed out a number of times, not just by him and his political opponents, but by the tens of thousands of Jews who live peacefully in Iran:

"Zionism is a political party that enjoys Jewish symbols and ideals, but it's not the same thing," (Iranian Jew Dr. Unes Hammai-Lalehzar) says. "The law that is being enforced in Israel is not Jewish law, it's not religious, its anti-religious." In the nearby synagogue, David Zakaria, who owns a rubber factory, agrees: "His comments were directed more to Israel as a political entity," he says of President Ahmadinejad. "I'm connected to Israel religiously, it's the Holy Land, but not politically."

Why none of this is EVER widely reported in the American media, I don't know... I suppose the thinking is that the "new Hitler" persona of Ahmadinejad will make Bush seem more justified in wanting a regime change in Iran. The unfortunate thing is that when you intentionally try to build up resentment and mistrust between East and West, you're really only helping one group: the terrorists. They know quite well that they win by reducing the war to East vs. West/Muslim vs. Christian, and that they lose if the war on terror is recognized as anarchy vs. civilization. Maybe we should stop helping them...

(I don't blame you for not knowing any of this about Iran, because if you watch the news media, you'd think that Ahmadinejad was the father of Neo-Nazism. I'm just saying I think it's wise for us to know all the facts about a country before we starting lobbing nuclear weapons at them.)

Exactly, they're both a couple of hotheaded neo-cons whose bravado only fucks over their country's standing in the world. Ahmedinejad grandstands about destroying the political entity of Israel, and that's spun by the West into wanting to mass murder Jews, which only breeds paranoia that arms West against East. Bush grandstands about destroying the political entities in Iraq and now Iran, and that's spun by the East into wanting to mass murder Arabs, which only breeds paranoia and arms East against West. Neither guy wants to kill any race of people, of course, but both they make arrogant, stupid, and politically sloppy statements that are easily exploited to breed hatred and mistrust between East and West. Al Qaeda couldn't ask for better leaders in either country, and are watching this escalate like puppetmasters.

I'd TOTALLY agree with you if this was in an Iranian newspaper. But he said this to an American journalist, whose writings will NOT make it back to Iran's leadship (most Americans aren't even aware of this column, why would Iran's regime be?)

Bottom line, though, if these two men were really afraid, they would have said NOTHING. I can understand if the column was a piece of Iranian journalism, then the men might be under pressure by the goverment to say something, but no one in the Iranian goverment is going to come to a synagogue and force people to talk to an American reporter. Because if they did, the American reporter would see the person was under pressure and put that in his column as well.

I'm just trying to figure out if you're simply not intelligent enough to understand that an East vs. West perception helps the terrorists, or if you're just scared of reevaluating your beliefs because you've invested so much time and raw emotion into them.

Either way, whether your deficiency is intellectual or emotional, if an American like you can't be convinced to stop playing their part in Al Qaeda's puppet show, I don't know how a poor and uneducated Muslim can be convinced to stop playing their part.

I think what Iran is doing is perfectly fine, they don't want nuclear warheads, they know they would never be able to make them fast enough to oppose americans, that is why they came out of the nuclear closet. They want the world to know they want it only for power plants, if they wanted it for warhead they wouldn't be throwing huge parties and celerations ten years before they even have the chance of making one.

Iran is atleast 8 years away from making warheads from what the paper says,so why would they come out about their nuclear program unless they were ready for war, or they wanted to show the world they plan on using it for peace.

Praise be to Ihm-ho-tep!

plus we'd be screwed if a war of east vs west ever broke out, we've dearmed our biggest allies, Germany and Japan, and England can't do shit, so we've got ourselves, the reduced armies of Japan and Germany and limey bastards vs the middle east, China, Korea, and most likely India and Russia would join the east if they didn't want to get nuked by their neighbors.

Wow, there's a nice sweeping generalization of an entire nation, we should realize that there's more to being a nation than invading other nations and blowing them to bits, or forcing our way of life on others. No one should have nukes, even the guys who created them knew that. How can you possibly use something like to make the world a better place? Now that they exsist we've got a hell of a problem because no one is going to get rid of theirs and we have no right to tell other countries that they can't have them if we do.

Oh I totally agree that India is out to build nukes too. Their military program in the last decade has done a complete 180. I saw this documentary a few years back about the military boom in India. They interviewed this weapons engineer about new Indian weapons and such. The guy sounded like a 7 year old with a GI Joe Rolling Thunder or something the way he explained the effects of these new rocket launchers and such. It was actually kind of eerie. That's the way it seems whenever I hear just about anything in regards to weapons from the middle east. It's things like that that allegorize this perhaps misdirected middle eastern idea that in order to be taken seriously you need a serious looking military. Which is one thing if your nation is in a position to spend that kind of money, and resources on it. It's quite another when your nation is Iran.

I actually agree with you here (to a point). We do have every right to tell any country that we don't want them to have nukes. Those countries have every right to tell us to fuck ourselves. If they don't comply with what we asked, we have every right to refuse trade with them. Also please note that the U.S. is not the only country that is doing this. The U.N. is also a huge factor in this.

essentially, its Bin Laden fault that I hate them. And the fact that after 9/11 all we saw in response from the Arab gutter was them dancing in the street buring our flags as there was barely even an utterace of condemnation of those who killed indiscriminately in the name of their god.

How do you think Al Qaeda recruits terrorists like the 9/11 hijackers? They say: hey, look at America's constant interference in the Middle East that has caused grave injustice and the deaths of Muslim civilians, along with barely even an utterance of condemnation from the American people; therefore, ALL Americans are equally guilty.

That's the real evil in what Al Qaeda did, and why we were all so outraged; it wasn't that they took issue with the foreign policy of our government, but rather that they painted a broad enough brush to say that American civilians were just as guilty and deserved death equally, simply because a few vocal reactionary conservatives are bigoted towards Arabs and the majority of Americans mind their own business instead of speaking out strongly against US foreign policy.

It is the same broad brush to say that all Muslims deserve death just like Al Qaeda, simply because a few vocal reactionary conservatives are bigoted towards the US and the majority of Muslims mind their own business instead of speaking out strongly against Al Qaeda.

hungtableed said:My logic, as of now in light of the current world situation, better them dead than us.

That kind of thinking is why the terrorist attacks on us began. Can we really stand up against their ideas by thinking like they do?

Most importantly, that's exactly how Bin Laden WANTS you to think; he wants to provoke a holy war. He dreams of a world where all Muslims think just like him, and all Americans think just like you. Bin Laden wouldn't change the words you're saying if he could write them himself. Do you really feel good about yourself letting that bastard manipulate you?
