Megadeth, Slayer, and Anthrax were all playing arenas. Metallica was beyond huge. Thrash videos were all over MTV. Even Rolling Stone magazine was covering the Clash of the Titans tour. Pantera saw the writing on the wall for the glam look and jumped on the thrash bandwagon. "pure balls to the wall metal" was all over the media when Pantera changed styles.
