I was curious where he went. He went out, found a singer who sounds almost EXACTLY like Hansi, and wrote a whole shitload of stuff like old BG. He wrote a lot of the older material, so his new band sounds more like Blind Guardian than they do themselves. (have you heard the terrible "Fly" EP?) http://www.myspace.com/savagecircus Brilliant. I think A Night At The Opera is just as good as their old stuff though. This song kicks ass, but I wish the singer didn't sound so much like Hansi. It would be better if they could have got a singer with a more individual style. Whatever, it still kicks ass and singers, like all musicians, are bound to evolve over time, so I'm sure he won't sound so much like Hansi for very long. |

I like this stuff a lot more than the newest BG I've heard. Night at the Opera was great, but this is more like Imaginations and Nightfall, which are my favorite albums by far. |

Listen to any vocalist's recordings in 5 year intervals or so and there's alllways noticable differances. |

Savage Circus is a lot better than Persuader, but if anyone deserves to sound like Blind Guardian, it's Savage Circus, since it's the former BG drummer. He left because he wasn't happy with the direction they were headed in. |

You could burn this album, give it to a fan of Blind Guardian, and easily get away with telling them it's the new BG album. Two major differences: Pieet's guitar solos suck. The songs, riffs, and melodic parts are absolutely amazing, but his solos are ripped right out of 80's cock rock. He should just stick to melodic and harmony riffs like BG do, or work on his chops/writing. The vocals are better. I swear to god. Not overall, Hansi has obviously had his moments of godliness..., however Jens singers lower, as high, and just plain stronger than Hansi does lately. Add to that there are some really well written vocals on here. The chorus and background vocals arent as soaring or layered as on BG albums, but there's still a whole shitload of em. In general, I went into this thinking I was going to get a decent powermetal album from a band that sounds or tries to sound like Blind Guardian. Instead, I got the follow up to "Imaginations from the other side". I honestly think I know why BG delayed the release of the new album and put out that e.p. instead. They're about to get one-upped. If you like powermetal, buy this. $9.99 at Newbury Comics. |
