I RAID'd 250GB drives.
I want to get a 400GB ($199), but I'm probably just going to RAID 300GB ($92) since I only have IDE ATA and not SATA or PATA

I have 2 320GB external drives (which I store someplace not my house).
1 for mp3s/backups
1 for pictures backups

when I back things up, I copy them to my desktop and then to the 320GB drive. and then once every few months, I burn DVDs.

when I turn everything on my home server, it's got more that 1tb.
there arent any single 1TB hd's out there yet or I would.

when I turn everything on my home server it has
120GB primary
500GB storage
200GB tivo storage
320GB external back up
320GB photobackup
3x60GB no reason to turn on old drives
100GB no reason to turn on old drive
40GB portable storage

I think that is it... I need to get 2 more 300GB drives or something for it.

one problem is when ever I get a bigger drive, I copy the old drives necesary content to the newer drive.. and then I forget to re-sort it.

I looked in my 500GB drive and there is an "old_drive" folder. most of the contents in there have their own "old_drive" folder inside them. one of which, I found a 3rd "old_drive" layer.

why would I get that?
you can get 500GB drives that have 16MB buffers for $250.
I would get a SATA card for that.

but if you're just using it for storage, you don't need a huge buffer, you can index the whole drive, and it will be searchable that way, insted of perusing through the drive for weeks on end.

and it's an ATA100 drive, not an SATA
