I loved Dharma Bums and Desolation Angels...On the Road was just sorta meh. I'll probably read this unedited version and wonder why I bothered.

Big Sur was by Henry Miller. I friggin loved it. My uncle lives about 20 minutes from there and said i could visit whenever. i'm broke as a motherfucker, though.

Ya, and I really exercised the hell out of it too. "Me no lyke Ka-oooack"

The whole beatnick prose stream of consciousness thing just seems to annoy me. It comes across more as digression, lots and lots of boring digression to the point where you forget what's even going on. Every time it happened I'd just think "Man I wish this jerk would study some more Salinger." Also I kept thinking that the narration was meant to be heard with some forced southern twang to it, then I remembered Kerouac was from Lowell, and the charcter in the story is from New Jersey (I think). It was kind of stupid.

Give me Flannery O'Connor any day of the week.

I hear what your saying about the lack of focus but I think it might just be a "Koo-ak" thing. like junky is pretty focused throughout.

No shit. I fucking writhed through that book. Kerouac is HIGHLY overrated.
