I was surprised, afterward, that there were no bands from Haverhill or elsewhere in the Merrimac valley on the bill; contrary to some of the posts above, there's more than a few bands active in this region and people do go out to shows for them. Hell, Indignation and Death Defect have been known to charter (and fill) buses to lug their home fans to shows in the Boston area, and one would think that the same people, and probably more, would show up to see these bands playing on a fest like this right in their backyard. Every festival has to start somewhere, and this was a decent start; the promoters might have added a band or two from the area instead of pulling from as far away as they did, and ideally they might have gotten a headliner from the bunch that Dan mentioned rather than someone who, honestly, wasn't really going to draw anyone who wouldn't've come to see Meliah and CSDO anyway. It could have been better, but this was the first year, and it turned out well enough. I still can't explain this alleged quote in the Herald overstating the attendance by a factor of 50. Promoters, inevitably, will inflate the attendance at their gigs so that those who didn't go and don't know anyone who did will go "wow, I missed a big show, I better go next time", and those who do know people who went will hear "yeah, there wasn't that many people there, but it was still a good time", but the figures mentioned are a pipe dream. I've been on infields with this kind of space, and that many people, and it would barely be possible to get 10,000 people onto the ground at Haverhill stadium, with barely any breathing room. Accounting for movement in and out, somewhere around 300 people saw this show, and the organizers, from a point of view of security and services, were prepared for about 1000 max.
