Smoke was pouring out of the building next to mine. My boyfriend and I went outside where at least 30 or 40 of our neighbors were trying to figure out what was going on. I detected the horrible stench of burning flesh and hair, and I knew that someone must have died. As it turned out, the guy who lived in the apartment where the fire started did die. When the firemen got into his apartment, he was already dead, and his head was on fire. The dead guy weighed about 400 pounds, and the firemen had a very hard time carrying his corpse out of there. I don't even think he fit on a normal stretcher. They had to make everyone move far away so that no one would see the embarrassment of it all. |
