FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
CORTEZ RELEASE DEBUT CD “THUNDER IN A FORGOTTEN TOWN” ON BUZZVILLE RECORDS
CD Release Party - Thursday January 17th at Church in Boston
Boston's Cortez are celebrating the release of their debut CD, "Thunder In a Forgotten Town," recorded at New Alliance Audio in Cambridge, MA by Marc Schleicher (Antler, Cracktorch, Quintaine Americana) and released on Belgium's Buzzville Records. Their songs "What Have You Done?," "The High Life," and "Stone the Bastards" (featuring guest vocals from We're All Gonna Die's Jim Healey and Cocked 'N Loaded's Kyle Neeson) have already received susbstantial airplay in Europe. Cortez returned from a successful trip to Belgium in November 2007 which culminated in an appearance at Buzzville Records' annual Buzzfest alongside Brant Bjork & the Bros.
Borrowing their name (but precious little else) from Neil Young's classic and controversial song “Cortez the Killer,” Cortez have been electrifying crowds with a pulverizing live show and an arsenal of instant-classics that mix classic 70's hard rock with rumbling, doomy stoner-metal. With influences ranging from the proto-metal fuzz of Cactus and Deep Purple to sludge-masters the Melvins and speed-weed monsters High On Fire, this is a band that's done its homework, and its sound stretches back through the decades, a timeless throb of heavy metal thunder and endless, rolling grooves.
The CD release party for "Thunder In A Forgotten Town" will be Thursday, January 17th at Church (69 Kilmarnock Street, Boston, MA). Angels Of Meth, Presley and Identified will also be performing. Cortez plan to support the release of this CD with tour dates in the U.S. and Europe in Summer 2008.
