Cleveland Indians Enjoy Being In Last Place[views:1894][posts:24]________________________________ [Jul 7,2008 11:05am - xmikex ""] At first I saw that Sabathia had been traded and I couldn't understand it. But after I found out he had turned down a contract extension, and remembered how terrible the Indians are this year it made a lot more sense. It seems to me like the Brewers definitely got the better end of this deal. They didn't give up anything too amazing for the AL strikeout leader. I also kind of like this because I know Cubs fans are shitting their pants now. Wah wahhh. |

_______________________________ [Jul 7,2008 11:16am - aril ""] Coming into the season I'd thought the Indians would be the better team in the AL because of last year. Guess I was wrong |
________________________________ [Jul 7,2008 11:23am - xmikex ""] They got Matt LaPorta (.288 with 20 homers and 66 RBIs in 84 games for Double-A Huntsville) and "others." 2 of the others are minor league pitchers with some pretty meh numbers. Either way I doubt this was the best deal they could have gotten for Sabathia. |
___________________________________________ [Jul 7,2008 4:00pm - ConquerTheBaphomet ""] I'm glad he got traded. Get him out of the AL. |
______________________________________________ [Jul 8,2008 12:00am - BobNOMAAMRooney nli ""] I really hope this results in a cheesy poster (like you used to be able to buy at MVP Sports back in the early 90s) of Prince Fielder and C.C. Sabathia dressed up at The Fat Boys. Now all they need to do is hire John Kruk to manage the Brewers. |
_____________________________ [Jul 8,2008 4:37am - guy ""] just remeber cle has 2 front line starters and they need offense. and prospects could always turn into jeff bagwell cuz good hitting prospects are hard to come by |
_________________________________ [Jul 8,2008 5:48am - sinistas ""] The key here is that the Brewers traded for a rental of Sabathia - he fully intends on hitting free agency. If CC's not willing to negotiate, why give up more for him? Cleveland did alright, with that being considered. |

Thing is, even though Milwaukee got the better end of this deal this season, this is the type of move you make when you're sure to contend for a championship this year, and I'm not so sure the Brewers are there. |
______________________________ [Jul 8,2008 9:22am - Pires ""] I'm just pissed the Sox couldn't have offered them something. A flipping minor leaguer??? |
_________________________________ [Jul 8,2008 10:04am - RustyPS ""] The Sox are stacked at starting pitcher as is, with Beckett, Daisuke, Lester, Buchholz, Wake, Masterson, and Colon when he comes back from the DL. I like the move to put Masterson in the pen, but they desperately need someone else for the pen, like Brian Fuentes. |
_______________________________ [Jul 8,2008 11:07am - Pires ""] But putting Colon and Masterson and MAYBE Bucholz in the pen would've been great to have Sabathia here. |
_______________________________ [Jul 8,2008 11:08am - Pires ""] and another thing, you can never have too much starting pitching |
_______________________________ [Jul 8,2008 11:12am - aril ""] Bucholz sucks |

I'd rather have them go after a solid pen arm and keep everything else as is than go after another starter (and in Sabathia's case, would most likely only be here for the rest of the season) and have Buchholz not learn his proper position at the big league level in his rookie year. |

I'd think the Sox would have a solid chance at landing him anyways. New York will offer him stupid amounts of money and he'll fail behind a horrible bullpen and aging rotation. If he was smart, come to Boston. Beckett, Matsuzaka, CC, Lester and Bucholz would scare the bejeebus at out of any team. |
