i copied this from another board. but this is interesting either way

What do you numbskulls consider the top 10 classic metal albums of all time?
And don't give me any of this Dimmu Booger/ Amon Amarth crap either....
I mean CLASSICS .
You know, shit you can hear over & over without burning out on it.
Good musicianship, good writing, good flow of songs, etc.

My 10 classics:
1. SLAYER - Reign In Blood
2. DEICIDE - Deicide
3. TESTAMENT - The Legacy
4. SACRIFICE - Torment In Fire
5. SEPULTURA - Arise
6. EXODUS - Bonded By Blood
7. METALLICA - Master Of Puppets
8. VENOM - Welcome To Hell
9. DESTRUCTION - Eternal Devestation
10. DEMOLITION HAMMER - Epidemic Of Violence

Kinda hard to narrow it down to only 10.......
But I could live happily with only these.

No order.

Every Maiden studio album that came out before Bruce Dickenson left besides Seventh Son of a Seventh Son and No Prayers For The Dying. That's 7. So:

8. Metallica - Ride The Lightning
9. Morbid Angel - Blessed Are The Sick
10. Judas Priest - Painkiller

 ___________________________________
[Feb 22,2004 6:56pm - JellyFish ""]
also no order

10.Darkthrone-Transylvanian Hunger
9.Morbid Angel-Altars Of Madness
8.Cannibal Corpse-Eaten Back To Life
7.Slayer-Hell Awaits
6.Opeth-Still Life
5.Metallica-Kill 'em All
4.Obituary-Slowly We Rot
3.Napalm Death-Enemy of the Music Business
2.Pantera-101 Proof
1.Gwar-America Must Be Destryoed

I tried to make everything I added older, so it could be truly classic. There are other albums I like more than some of these, but I kept it to one album per band.

1. suffocation - effigy of the forgotten
2. suffocation - pierced from within
3. malevolent creation - retribution
4. necrophagist - onset of putrefaction ( most technical DM ever)
5.dying fetus - KOA ( a lot might disagree but it changed the face of DM)
6.disgorge- cranial impalement
7.mortal decay- a gathering of human artifacts
8.dehumanized - prophecies fortold ( mastered slam DM )
9.cryptopsy - WS
10. meshuggah- Chaossphere

granted this is only off the top of my head the list changes every now and then. But i think these are definatly some classic metal discs

No, the guy was just saying he only wanted metal that is really classic metal. Nothing in the last decade. Actually, I think Jellyfish's selection of Still Life is kind of controversial. I love Dimmu. They are definately in my top 10 favorite bands. Amon Amarth: to be honest, I havn't heard them.

That's a stupid fucking guideline. Apparently no one can listen to Dimmu or Amon without burning out on it. Mighty pompous of the creator. Just because an album isn't older than me doesn't mean it can't be a classic. Retarded.

I had a feeling someone would notice this. I debated entering it myself. I tried to put things that were classic to me. Still Life was one of the most important albums I ever heard. It changed how I listened to music. As for Dimmu and Amon Amarth, they are both AWESOME.

that whole thing was copied from another board i just put my bands on at the end. of course there will be bands that are essential from today on there. i kinda mixed mine up...but i am ashamed; i admit, i did forget reign in blood... that album changed everything for me. but the idea was classic like 80's or early nintys....and i do understand that most of you werent even born yet. but how much does older stuff have on you today. that was what originally got me interested. its all metal and thats all that really matters.

I am also a minor GWAR fan (but only because I have heard a very limited selection of their material). All I have to say here is that Meat Sandwich is the best metal song of all time.

Yes, I have seen them live once, and it was an amazing show. They killed celebrities Saddam and Mike Tyson, and brought out Gor Gor, their pet dinosaur, which is 15 feet tall, and killed him of course. Dude, check it out. They are touring this may, according to the website (www.gwar.net) MAKE IT TO THE SHOW

Aw, dude, I am DEFINATELY there! I am gonna try and make it up front at the Opeth show Saturday (I know you'll be up near the stage). If I can I will try to find you. I am not sure what you look like (but you'll be wearing a Red Sox hat right?) but I kind of know what Abbath looks like, so maybe I can find you guys and we can scream shit at eachother during Devil Driver's set?

that initial list is all thrashy stuff. if this is going to be a CLASSIC list then its definitely going to be more NWOBHM bands than thrash. And Black Sabbath would be there. Iron Maiden as well.

GWAR is the apitimy of heavy metal. Metal's roots (not including Sabbath) are cheesy music about sex and other stupid things. Then it evolved into actual good music. GWAR's music is chockfull of great metal riffs and their lyrics are stupid in a funny way. They don't take themselves seriously Spaldino, so if you do, then you can't make a proper judgement.

they are good for a live show, but their music is crap. I know that they aret serious, but there is no way that any of their albums are classic. they are a joke and that is what i consider them and their music to be, a joke. you can listen to them for funny lyrics but not good metal riffs because they lack truly good riffing.

I love the song Meat Sandwich because of its awesome riffs! It has three guitar parts and some stuff they do just sounds really good. Like in the pre-chorus one of the guitarist is playing a riff made up completely of harmonics (either natural or harp, probably harp). I know this isn't very original, but the riff sounds really cool.
