Gear Repair/mods[views:5688][posts:14]______________________________________ [Feb 4,2009 10:43am - JustinSteele ""] I know you guys talk gear a good amount and thought I'd do a plug for my guitar tech. He's unbelievably knowledgeable and probably the best customer service I've ever had. If you're looking for any repairs for tube amps or guitars go to http://www.guitarrepair.com If that link doesn't work just google it. He'll talk to you for hours on end about gear or anything else and gives you a tremendous price. I got my 5150II re-tubed with all hand select preamp and output tubes plus some mods for the clean channel. We spent around 20 hours messing around with it to get the sound I liked. I highly recommend him if you are not a tech savvy guy like myself because he makes things very understandable. He just moved his shop to Mansfield MA and could use the business so if you need anything look him up. Awesome. |

_____________________________ [Feb 4,2009 1:08pm - blue ""] justin, i hate to rain on your parade but re-tubing your 5150 II is something you can do completely by yourself. 5150s are fixed bias, as in you have to get the amp modded to actually change the voltage for different tubes. with amps like that all you have to do is just drop in the new set yourself. same thing goes for mesas. |
_____________________________________ [Feb 4,2009 3:18pm - JustinSteele ""] I don't believe that's the case with the output tubes (but I could be wrong). It has a bias adjustment. You can do it yourself but need to know the math. That is something I have never done well with. Either way, the guy took care of me when other shops just took my shit, got it back to me in a week with either the same problem or something new. |
_____________________________ [Feb 4,2009 3:29pm - Blue ""] Ok just saying next time if you want buy tubes yourself and ill put them in for free in front of you to show you how easy it really is. No math required on a 5150 II, i guarantee you. |
_____________________________________ [Feb 4,2009 3:45pm - JustinSteele ""] You sure you're not thinking about the standard 5150? I just did some googling on the subject and that's the only one that says there is no biasing needed. I don't see why it would have a nob to change the voltage if there wasn't some adjusting needed. Either way, if you do this thing for me for free, I will gladly buy you some glass beads as is the transaction that I would demand were I to do service for someone. |

Well why did I have the bowl Blue? Why did I have the Bowl? (Millhouse to Bart on the Simpsons?) |
_____________________________ [Feb 4,2009 4:14pm - Blue ""] Hahahaha the bias adjustment knob on the back does indeed change the bias, but peaveys are biased very 'cold' at the factory anyway so you cant do any wrong adjusting it yourself. |
