NASA's New Mission to Search for Alien Worlds[views:8279][posts:44]__________________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 9:48am - FuckIsMySignature ""] "Calling it a mission that may fundamentally change humanity's view of itself, NASA on Friday prepared to launch a telescope that will search our corner of the Milky Way galaxy for Earth-like planets." http://www.cnn.com/2009/TECH/space/03/06/n...sa.kepler.launch.planets/index.html |

________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 9:51am - reimroc ""] I believe that there are other planets like ours out there. Hopefully this telescope finds them. ps: you will get a kick out of the flat earth society haha |

___________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 9:53am - arilliusbm ""] glad to hear they're finally launching this fucker. been hearing about this for years. NASA needs more funding, IMO. this is the future of the human race |

_____________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 9:57am - the_reverend ""] I thought the same thing heh. glad he's not gone. this rules. carina and I are heading to kennedy space center now. |
____________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 10:17am - arilliusbm ""] I guess certain topics are more important than retiring. But haha, when did I poop on it? I commend Fims for posting this. They had specials on this on NatGeo and the History channel a while ago when it was first planned. They've also been discussing it in Popular Mechanics, Astronomy, and others for quite sometime. I've been waiting this damn launch for a while. 100% disclosure of the truth of our known universe in our lifetime will make me happy |
_________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 10:18am - reimroc ""] i posted that after just seeing your old news is old. didn't see your post with an actual comment lol |

____________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 10:26am - arilliusbm ""] wait till we discover how string theory is close to being correct and how multi-universes with multi-dimensions exist and one can trascend beyond each dimension which defies some laws of physics but totally makes sense when you really think about it and read about it and listen to brootal new england bands |

____________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 10:34am - arilliusbm ""] I wouldn't say "dumping" money into it.. just changing the ratio of where our money goes. Right now we need to 1.) end the war on drugs 2.)take some of the military R&D developmental funds (we spend waaaaaaay more than other countries) and trasnfer some of it to NASA, which has civilian purposes and could benefit the human race. Obviously they want to solve the housing crsis and other things which are holding us back. But the fact remains that more money needs to be sectioned off for space exploration and colinization. Right now their goal is to send people to Mars by 2030. Sigh. |
______________________________ [Mar 6,2009 10:37am - Yeti ""] 2030? that's ambitious. |
______________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 10:38am - SkinSandwich ""] We will never make it to Mars. 2012 and the Earf gone be done. |

______________________________ [Mar 6,2009 12:50pm - Yeti ""] lets hope they find it at the most gigantic level. |
________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 1:19pm - darkwor ""] Of all those "superearths" they've been finding in the past few years in a relatively small area of outer space (can you imagine a planet 10 times the size of earth with it's own water cycle?) there's countless others out there undiscovered. Earth just happens to have the perfect conditions for life as we know it, with water, organic compounds, a suitable temperature range, and time being the ingredients. These earth-like planets are composed of many earthly compounds, but of course other elements and compounds which are rare or non-existent here, and combine that with unknown or harsher environments, and a longer geological timeline, I cannot imagine what may come to exist. We're well on our way to finding something in our lifetimes. THE TRVTH IS OUT THERE. |
_____________________________ [Mar 6,2009 1:21pm - Yeti ""] [img] we're all fucked. |
__________________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 1:23pm - FuckIsMySignature ""] there was a cool program on either the history channel or discovery that showed what life could look like on other planets based on their possible conditions. |

________________________________ [Mar 6,2009 1:29pm - darkwor ""] Exactly...we're only self-aware because of a genetic mutation, we have evaded natural selection because of our capability to build things and convey ideas...who's to say that beings on other worlds are not 'beings' but fierce highly-evolved predators like that big guy. Then we'd just nuke them, and colonize when the rads are gone. I love being human. |

We're still stuck on this stupid rock, and the clock's ticking - if at least a couple hundred of us don't manage to get something started somewhere else before somebody here does something stupid, it's game over for teh peoples.
