I think Republicans/Christians are looking for this new way now. No, I don't think it will be liberal/progressive, but then again, that's a trend that is dying rapidly as the excess of the industrial revolution fades. But a radicalized core of belief could be a powerful force toward some nifty improvements to the world. Also, many Christians (and Jews, and Hindus, etc) are quite cool in that they're the people building and maintaining community.
