your dvd must not be region 1 (US&CAN) or region 0 (ALL).

check on the back, what does it say for region?

On PS2 you can change the region code in the options. I don't know what to do with the dvd player though.

you usually can change the region on most dvd players, Id just bring the dvd back, unless you purchased it via pawn

on a lot of DVD players, you can only change the region code 2 or 3 times and then you have to bring it back to the manufacturer to get it reset.

they don't want people buying chinese DVDs and bringing them back here.

you can get those...
actually there was a shitty $30 dvd player you could get at walmart.
turns out it supported ALL regions and NTSC/PAL so people were buying them up.
once walmart realized it, I think they are now $120

I was actually one of the people who bought one of them but it was from circuit city for 59.99 with a 30 dollar mail in rebate, you can't beat that with a stick.

HAHA... you can just download those.
and those are done to VCDs.
there is no point in putting them on DVDs cause the quality is crap anyways.
