You cannot pile on 5 layers of thick sloppy sludgy guitar together without it sounding muddy. Try to take different mic placements, eq settings, some thinner sounding tracks that accentuate different octaves or strings. Using different microphones also help as different mics are hyped or bumped at different places along the frequency spectrum. Using the same SM57 on every track will cause (as an example) a pile of 4khz as the mic has a presence boost built into the mic response. Think of textures and layers. [/QUOTE]
