Tamaron, nikon, and tokina also make a 18-50 f/2.8 range lens. Look on: http://www.dxomark.com/ for their sweet spots ans see if you live with it. I have the 17-55 nikon f/2.8 and it's my favorite/most used lens of all time. |

| _________________________________________ [Feb 25,2010 1:03pm - TheRidersofDoom ""] hahaha well I use a d40 and am in no way a seasoned photographer, just a hobby running on a few years with slr. so I guess my next question is, what are some good lens for a beginner? and I guess by architectural you mean like if I were to be taking pictures that needed to be in real life proportions and not distorted, if so then yes I am taking pictures of buildings and not architectural, I just didn't know there was a difference. |

| ______________________________________ [Feb 25,2010 1:16pm - the_reverend ""] You just need something that is in the range of 24-80 on a FF camera or 17-50 on a DX camera. f/2.8. then you stop it down to f/8-11 and get really good images. If you were shooting canon, i would suggest the 17-40 f/4, but since you aren't and the 16-35 f/4 nikon is too much cash, a good solid 17-50 range is perfect for what you want. |
