If she claims there are no all ages shows in MA then I'm allowed to call her a dude on principle.

I'll second this motion, therefor it passes.

MA does seem to be a state where all ages shows aren't the most common thing in the world though. I wish there were more of them, though I'm over 21 now so I guess I don't need to worry about this anyway.

Just remembering all the times there were cool looking shows at a bar or something when I was in high school bums me out.

Club Oasis does all age matinee shows Sundays with the bar open and can be opened early for a bigger show. Our liquor license says that all people under the age of 18 have to be out by 10 though, including bands.

Check out this little chestnut:

"Why All-Ages Shows Should Be Allowed in Massachusetts:

- They work in other markets (Upstate NY, CA, etc.)

- The cutoff age for people in MA going out to see live, local bands is 26, according to a 2007 study. After that, they move to uber-suburbia and cite "adult responsibilities" like dayjobs as an excuse for not going out. If you get a kid hooked in young, live showgoing will be engrained in them for life.

- Kids have the greatest amount of disposable income; they don't have mortgages and car payments to worry about. They'll buy tickets to a show, and a band's merch. Bands might actually be able to not lose money on shows. Wow, what a concept!

- Alot of clubs use the excuse, "Oh, kids are gonna try to underage-drink." We know that's B.S. First off, many of the born-post-1990 set are militant straightedgers. Secondly, things haven't changed much since the 80's - underage drinking happens in vacationing parents' basements - NOT in bars. Kids just want to see live music. Besides, it's the bouncer or bartender's responsibility to be properly checking ID's.

- Another excuse clubs use is, "Well, the bar won't make money." Make all shows ALL-AGES/21+ to drink with proper ID.

- Why should the ClearChannel (aka LiveNation) affiliates have 100% monopoly on all-ages shows? They only book the big-name acts. It's time for the local scene-eschelon promoters to have say and pull. And it should be about UNSIGNED LOCAL BANDS.

- Young bands should be able to cut their teeth playing on real stages, not just someone's basement or garage.

- Restrictions on what segment of the populace is allowed to enjoy live music = CENSORSHIP based on demographics. The arts should be able to be enjoyed by all at will.

Contact your congressperson and get the ball rolling!
Bands will benefit.
Clubs will benefit.
Young people will benefit.
Our entire scene will be rejuvenated. "

Bitch be retarded.

It's a good point...I'm particularly fond of how she said "hooked in" and said that they have "disposable income". Obviously they should spend it at her all ages shows that can't happen or something.

One advantage of growing up in RI was that the only place in Providence NOT doing all ages shows was the Safari Lounge and that's long gone. I don't think I've ever seen a show in Providence with an age limit.

All Ages shows are great and it's not that difficult to have one that can also severe liquor to the 21+ crowd.(old man voice) In my day there were All Ages shows every weekend and the only problems were violence related and I think that b.s. has died down considerably.
Alot of the lack of AA shows is also a direct result of the Don Law Co/Clear Channel/Live Nation/Lyons Group unwritten law towards their booking policies 'No Niggers-No Kids'.*

First off, many of the born-post-1990 set are militant straightedgers.

This is the dumbest fucking sentence I've ever read. You know how many straight edge people there are in Providence? ZERO!

And beside that point, straight edge before 21 is lulzy.

I think someone recently said that, "Straight edge before 21 is like a 700 pound man claiming he is single because he's not really looking for a relationship right now."

the irony being that the Safari NEVER carded. I was drinking in there when I was a sophomore in highschool. I LOVED that place....so dingy and dark: perfect for shit head metal shows.

Nefarious V Hirudinea was my favorite brawl in there.

I never went to Safari... I didn't have a license until I was 18 (2005), so the days of me going to shows on my own pretty much came after that place.

[Mar 5,2010 4:20pm - AndrewBastard  ""]
Hahah yeah they were. Rusty and Marc were easily roused...one time the club dancer party kids were in the alley that the Safari was located in and started some shit with a metalhead smoking outside the Safari...next thing you know the entire show was outside talking shit to these kids and out of no where a rock got thrown and hit my GF at the time in the face and that set it off...these wiggers got STOMPED literally..

My GF had to get her chin stiched up and still has a scar from it...

She works for school of rock. I think the message behind all of this is that she wants the kids who go to school there to be able to play any "adult" venue.

Though I think I'm slipping into the black metal style of just forsaking concerts all together...I haven't listened to a band in a while that tours...besides finntroll...which arrive soon with moonsorrow mwhaha
