Exactly what everyone asked for. Right?

It's a really cool story. If I wasn't 2 years old in 1984 I'm sure it would have been even cooler to live. But seriously, these scene docs get exponentially worse every time and the production value of this one finally hit rock bottom. You've got guys getting interviewed in front of cable access backdrops and curtains. At 1:20 you've got a guy getting interviewed in front of what I can only assume is a green screen background of Newbury St footage. You've got the CEO of Newbury Comics not threatening Marcus.

Someone finally made the laziest documentary anyone could have made about hardcore.

I was 8 or 9 in 1984 and too pussy to be there. I like the live footage.

The live footage is really cool, and if it's rare stuff that no one has really seen before I hope it turns out to be this doc's saving grace.

But the rest of it looks like it was shot on VHS at a cable access station in between takes of Bongo Man.

The backdrop they have Choke in front of is the kind of thing studios use as a background for satellite interviews for talk shows.

Act like you've seen a documentary before. Rent a camera. Goto the guy's house. Goto his work. Show me his world now, and how he interacts with it. Give me some kind of characterization. It's a documentary for christs sake.

I wish they'd just release the live footage. I really don't give two shits about anything else.

I thought the interviews in American Hardcore were pretty insightful, but maybe that's just me.

insightful how? HC history is pretty out in the open by now. it's like that 'until the light takes us' movie. I don't need to be reminded that burzum killed mayhem for the billionth time.

also, I recently made the (bored) decision to put on this retarded movie called "hard core logo." it's a 'mockumentary' supposedly about 'punk rock.'

I haven't watched it in a while, so I don't remember specifics, but there was some stuff I didn't know that I thought was interesting.

I got ten minutes in and ended up turning it off and reading instead. So it did SOME good.

For all my criticisms of American Hardcore it was decently produced. There were a lot of talking heads, but the composition was decent and it came off as lively. Anytime you're making a doc about something that already happened it's up to the producer to find a way to bring that story to life. It's a challenge. Not everyone can do it. And not everyone should do it.

Until the Light Takes Us is only worth watching for the 10 minutes were Fenriz turns into a sad panda at the Black Metal photo exibit and Frost makes a jackass of himself at a Black Metal one man play.

This opinion is backed by the fact that DVD copies of Frost's Sofa Stab The Musical are sky rocketing.
