GRINDMOTHER ANNOUNCES TWO FINAL SHOWS AMID DEMENTIA DIAGNOSIS[views:8][posts:0]_______________________________________ [Jul 22,2025 11:39am - the_reverend ""] GRINDMOTHER ANNOUNCES TWO FINAL SHOWS AMID DEMENTIA DIAGNOSIS Members of FUCK THE FACTS Join Lineup for CATTLE DECAPITATION Tour Appearances Over a decade after the iconic grindcore matriarch first started turning heads, 77-year-old GRINDMOTHER is preparing for a powerful farewell amid a battle with dementia. After stumbling into the world of grindcore in 2015 with a series of viral videos and releasing their first song “Any Cost” later that year, Grindmother released their sole album “Age of Destruction” in 2016, followed by nearly 60 tour dates in 2017 and 2018. Now, following a 7-year hiatus, Grindmother will perform two final shows this winter — a celebratory and emotional farewell to one of the most unlikely and inspiring forces in extreme music. These final performances will take place as part of CATTLE DECAPITATION’s upcoming No Fear For Tomorrow Tour, with appearances scheduled for December 5 at Club Soda in Montreal and December 6 at The Concert Hall in Toronto. Sharing the stage is a devastating lineup of extreme acts including ABORTED, FROZEN SOUL, and TRIBAL GAZE. Grindmother’s farewell sets will feature her son and longtime musical collaborator Rayny Forster (Moshpit Tragedy Records, Corrupt Leaders) on bass, joined by Topon Das and Mathieu “Vil” Vilandré of FUCK THE FACTS on guitar and drums. Grindmother will perform a short set — a celebratory goodbye that will give closure to her legacy as one of metal’s most unforgettable stories. “We wanted her to have a proper farewell for the fans she loves more than anything,” says Forster. “We’re beyond thankful to Travis Ryan and Cattle Decapitation for the opportunity to bring her in front of such a large audience. And of course, to our fellow Canadian grindcore family in Fuck the Facts who have graciously accepted the call. This will be a great celebration.” He adds: “These will be her final live appearances, but it won’t be the last you’ll hear from us. We’re working on new music, and there’s a lot more to come.” Grindmother first stunned the world with her ferocious vocals at age 65 and has since earned a cult following across the globe. Her message — rooted in rage, compassion, and resilience — has connected with fans far beyond the world of grindcore. While her videos have racked up millions of views and she appeared on multiple international television programs, Grindmother was anything but a gimmick. Despite earning coverage from outlets like Exclaim, CBC, NPR, VICE, Global News, CNN, CTV, Huffington Post, The Strombo Show, Alan Cross, and countless others, she made it clear she wasn’t interested in being a novelty act. She turned down several mainstream TV appearances and talent show invitations that felt too gimmick-driven or misaligned with her values. Never one to avoid making a statement, in 2021 Grindmother released a cover of the SYSTEM OF A DOWN song, “Forest”. The video was accompanied by an animated band made up of liberal political figures including Bernie Sanders on drums — a tongue-in-cheek jab at System of a Down drummer John Dolmayan’s outspoken conservative views. Along her journey, her work even earned a public nod from OZZY OSBOURNE, who shared her video for “Any Cost” on Twitter/X in 2015. At the core of the project is her son, Rayny Forster — a veteran of the underground scene who serves as co-writer, manager, and creative director of Grindmother’s material. In 2006, Forster founded Moshpit Tragedy, a pre-Bandcamp-era “pay-what-you-want” digital label that worked with over 100 bands, including EXTREME NOISE TERROR, AMEBIX, PHOBIA, and DOOM — even securing a distribution partnership with Relapse Records. During Grindmother’s original run, Forster was endorsed by Orange Amplifiers, Jericho Guitars, and Ernie Ball Strings. Grindmother’s story is one of defiance, love, and sheer sonic rage — a grandmother who tore through grindcore with more power and purpose than musicians half her age. She shattered every mold the music world tried to fit her in and made damn sure she’d be remembered on her own terms. Don’t miss the final chapter in one of heavy music’s most inspiring journeys.
