Swerving through the street
Drunk as fuck
Searching for a open store
I think I'm out of luck
Maybe I'll find a mad mother on patrol

Hit her car
Smash it up
Pull her out
Beat her up
Take her money
Run her down

Can't find any beer
It's way past two
There's just one thing
we can do

Hit her car
Smash it up
Pull her out
Beat her up
Take her money
Run her down
Drive her face out of town

Drunk drivers against mad mothers

They are afraid of the competition. I see signs for no on 1 all over the packys down here. It is just wine, what is the big deal?

Wine's just the first step. The law can easily be changed, all they have to do is tack on "and beer" if they feel like it.

And people drink wine to get drunk too. A lot of younger people come in trying to buy random sorts of white zinfandel.

It's important because independently owned packies, and convenient stores depend on that sole advantage over blockbuster stores like Stop & Shop and Walmart (the one and only time I'd ever put the two of them in the same sentence) to stay in business. A yes vote on #1 would be one step closer to Walmart controlling the world.

When I lived in Maine, you could buy beer and wine at the grocery store. The drunk driving problem wasn't any worse, and smaller liquor stores continued to survive.
When I lived in Michigan, you could buy beer and wine and liquor at the grocery store. The drunk driving problem wasn't any worse, and the smaller operators were doing a-okay.
When I lived in Germany, it was almost impossible to find somewhere that didn't sell beer and liquor. Drunk driving was practically nonexistent (probably due to enforcement and better public transit), and the small operators continued to do well (probably because all the grocery stores closed at 8 PM).
When I was in China, it was possible to buy beer from vending machines. This was officially Totally Awesome.

I'm not a fan of incrementalism, so I voted no on #1. Seriously, we just need to throw out the rotting corpse of the Blue Laws and start the hell over.

odd. they sell beer and wine at all the supermarkets and convienience stores around here just no liquor. and they sell liquor till 5 pm on sundays.

Fuck NH and their state run liquor stores.

As far as kids getting beer or wine cheaper at the supermarkets, it wont happen. At these places the under 21 employees are not even allowed to touch the beer to scan it on the register they need to call an over 21 sales person to swipe it. Then you have to put it in your own cart cause the stupid bagboy is not 21.

the problem is that MA has been set up like it has been currently for DECADES so a large amount of packies have been created to compensate for that. now the super markets want to cut into their market and that unfairly puts a lot of people in MA in an unfair position where they could lose their stores/jobs when they most certainly don't need to.

the grocery stores don't need whine sales to turn the huge profits they turn, the independent packies do. look at what putting pharmacies in targets, walgreens, cvs and so on did to independent pharmacies, they are all but extinct now thanks to big business going after a market it doesn't need to survive and does more harm than good.

what if next year the super markets proposed to sell gas at super markets, dont you think then all the gas stations would be in an uproar?

this isnt a state like NH where for years and years its been legal for grocery stores to sell whine/booze, so MA has a large amount of packies to compensate and grocery stores are setting out to drastically tip those scales without any good cause.

seriously, what unfair competition are they talking about? stop and shop sells food, a packie sells whine... stop and shop has to compete with market basket not local jims booze store down the street. thats like blockbuster going after a gas station.

its greedy big business plain and simple.

I'm voting no. BUT I think the drunk driving argument is kind of a dumb one, so much so that I think it's going to push some people to vote yes out of spite. There is hardly a shortage of wine in Massachusetts. Anyone who could buy it under this new law could already buy it now. Increased availibility isn't going to lead to an increase of drunk driving unless you start pumping wine through people's kitchen sinks and water bubblers. The intelligent reason to oppose this is the crippling effect it could have on small buisnesses. Ironically enough if this passed plenty of liquor stores would close eventually, which (I'd have to assume) would lead to a DECREASED availibility of alcohol.

it's good that you voted no, but for the wrong reasons, as some already stated. i am a small business owner, so obviously no is my vote.

and also, there actually is nutritional value in some alcoholic products. the problem is that in general, the US gluttonizes everything. if you go almost anywhere in europe, you can find young adults hardly legal at all, even younger children, with a glass of wine at a meal. not because they want to get wasted, just because there are less sulfides in their wine and therefore doesn't really get anyone drunk unless you drink a whole shitload. a glass of wine a day in most places in europe is kind of like the whole "an apple a day will keep the doctor away" saying in the US. since wine, beer and liquors are a large part of many european cultures, they are used to not having it excess (most of the time). obviously there will always be exceptions to the rule. some nutritional value can still be found in alcoholic beverages here in the US, but needs to be taken in with much more moderation.

it would be wonderful if that sort of culture was present here in the US, but if we ever made any attempt, there would probably be a heap of trouble coming our way for years, but probably would even out eventually. still not a good idea

I'm straight egde...

and personally I have no respect for other people's choices and lifestyles, even if they are also straight edge.

and also, Mark spread my butt cheeks once and farted into my open ass.

Had to get that out there.

The fact that there will be more drunk drivers on the road is complete bullshit. The same assholes are going to drink and drive, where they got their alcohol is neither here nor there.
The fact that there will be more under-age kids getting alcohol is bullshit. The same douche-bags are going to be buying the same booze for th same kids. The only difference would be if said douche lives next to Shaw's.
All of this "No on 1" ridiculousness is just that. The main fore-runners backing the "no" policy are fucking liquor store owners worrying about supermarkets infringing upon their business. Fuck that capitalist, monopolistic attitude. You know what, fuck everything. This rain is making me grumpy.

That's all true, but in five years when stop and shop wants to sell liquor and beer as well, it will hurt the little guy.

Personally, I would rather both these places sell than bars.

bars are where all the drunk driving comes from.

I'm straightedge. One time I laughed at a Bud Light commercial. I threw myself down a flight of stairs for it.

This shit will not be tolerated.

yeah but I think it's worse that you would rather support a big international business like Shaw's rather than the dudes at Clocktown. small business owners are always uptight about money, doesn't mean they're filthy stinking rich!

People in America make a huge deal of absolutely nothing. The ability to buy alchohol in a supermarket means absolutely nothing. Get over it.

Yes. I agree. Since it got voted down it now means absolutely nothing. Go back to Norway.
