I've been working with video, shooting/editing/encoding/authoring for years. The more I browse job descriptions the more it seems like knowledge of Flash, CSS, Java Script etc are really marketable skills since...ya know... that whole "inter"net thing caught on. I feel like it's hurting my marketability to not have that knowledge base. So I'm wondering if any of the multitalented RTTP-ers out there know of any courses/certificate programs/whatever for somebody that doesn't necessarily need to be a web design guru but would like to have a working knowledge of Flash and HTML.

I program in Java all the time... that's what I'm doing right now or at least should be doing. Java for web-based applications are usually done through servlets on the server side using J2EE and not clientside unless you are using web-start. Webstart rules once it works.

Javascript is a script like language that runs on the client only (unless you use ASP on yourserver).

I'm trying to learn ActionScript and it makes me want to kill myself. OOP is so bizarre when you're not used to it.

disagree: OOP takes more forethought.

HTML5 example:

Not only any substantial level, unless you're comparing it to something like a scripting/template language (PHP). Most programmers I know put the same amount of forethought into a program regardless of method...

Start with flash tutorials online, too lazy to google one for you. I think it'd help in the video department - you can start working with your videos in flash right away and it's intuitive enough where you can learn a lot quickly. Then you'll have a platform to apply CSS, JavaScript, barrel rolls and so forth.

yeah, nothing stands out on your resume quite like "I read a tutorial online".
